Amino acids are important to health because they are the building block components that comprise proteins. Protein substances are what make up the muscles, organs, hair, nails and other parts of the body. They form the basis of the immune system as components of the antibodies.
But even if you eat a reasonable diet with enough protein-rich foods, you may still have amino acid deficiencies. Possible reasons for this include impaired absorption, infection, trauma, stress, drug use, age and nutrient imbalances.
