Pain Management Methods

One’s quality of life can greatly be affected by several factors like stress or unhealthy lifestyle. Certain illnesses or unpleasant feelings like pain can also cause a person to be less productive. Therefore pain relief methods or medications are very important. These typically come in the form of drugs called analgesics and occasional anxiolytics. Pain can also be managed through therapy.

Pain relief can be achieved through:

  • Physical approach – application of physiatry or TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation)
  • Medications – analgesic and anti-inflammatory drugs are given in varying dosages for different levels of pain
  • Psychological approach – hypnosis, cognitive and behavioral therapy and biofeedback
  • Interventional procedure – can make use of implantable device that could send electric impulses and alter the perception of pain
