diabetes facts

Diabetes is a medical condition in which the body is unable to produce or properly utilize and store glucose, a form of sugar. In diabetes, glucose backs up in the bloodstream thus causing blood sugar levels to rise too high. There are two major types of diabetes: type I and type 2.

Based on diabetes facts, type 1 diabetes is where the body completely stops making any insulin, the hormone responsible for using glucose found in foods for energy. People with type 1 take daily insulin injections to survive. On the other hand, type 2 is where the body doesn’t produce enough insulin or is unable to use insulin properly. This type of diabetes usually occurs in people who are overweight, are over 40, and have a family history of diabetes.
