ethics of stem cell research

The overwhelming objection of many individuals and groups to stem cell research is that the procedure involves the destruction of an embryo or fetus. At present, there are many arguments circulating within the scientific community on the ethics of stem cell research. One side of the fence argues about the destruction of a potential human which is in conflict with religious and moral views.

The other side insists that the potential for stem cell research overrides those concerns as the research can provide treatments and possible cures for debilitating illnesses that have no cure and will significantly impact human’s way of life. Most scientists agree that it is important to continue to pursue research but that they must undertake their work ethically and within the bounds of law, which can vary from country to country.
