Types of Walking Sticks

People have been using walking sticks for a long time. Historically, these were used as a weapon when they are not permitted to carry knives or guns. Nowadays, its primary function is to keep someone balanced while walking. If a person is injured or sick, a walking stick serves as a crutch and helps them move around without falling. Walking sticks vary in shape, size, and purpose.

Here are some types of walking sticks, depending on the wood, the country of origin, or the purpose:

  • Ashplant, an Irish walking stick made of ash plant
  • Devil’s walking stick, made from a Hercules plant
  • Shooting stick, a foldable stick
  • Supplejack, made from a tropical vine
  • Penang lawyer, made from Asian Palm
  • Kebbie, a Scottish walking stick
  • Pike staff, used in slippery surfaces because of its pointed end
  • Waddy, an Australian walking stick
