Tulsi – The Elixir of Life

The Holy Basil, also known as the tulsi herb, is commonly grown in Hindu homes as it is a sacred plant in the Hindu religion. The leaves are used in ayurvedic medicine to cure common colds, headaches, stomach disorders, inflammation, various forms of poisoning, and malaria. It can also assist the body to adapt to stress and normalize body functions. Tulsi is usually taken as tea, dried powder, or mixed with ghee.

Tulsi offers so many health benefits because of its unique chemistry that is highly complex. It contains hundreds of phytochemicals, which are non-nutritive plant chemicals that can have protective or disease preventing properties. These compounds work together to give strong antioxidant, antiviral, antibacterial, adaptogenic, and immune-enhancing properties. Drinking tea made of tulsi herbs can promote general health and support the body’s natural defenses.
