Symptoms of Diabetes

Type 1 and type 2 are two variations of this common disorder among the elderly. They are two different forms of diabetes but have symptoms that are common to both. Either way, cells aren’t getting the glucose that they need. If you go on frequent trips to the bathroom, is always thirsty, experience weakness and fatigue and is rapidly losing weight, it is time to visit your doctor for a check-up. You could be suffering from diabetes.

As the disease progress, there could be a tingling numbness in the hands, legs and feet. It is a symptom called neuropathy and it occurs because consistently high glucose in the blood damages the nervous system and this starts with the extremities. I know a lot of people with diabetes though, and I know that for as long proper diet is followed and medication taken, diabetes can be controlled and you can enjoy an almost normal lifestyle. Under doctor’s supervision, a diabetic can enjoy a life not too different from a person without diabetes. There is just the need for frequent visits to the bathroom and a slower pace as fatigue can set in even without strenuous activity.
