Although we are used to the popularity of subtly blended blond streaks, it seems that chunky highlights may be staging a comeback. This 1990s favourite was once viewed as tacky and youthful, but is now returning as a hair trend for 2017. Just like the first time around, chunky highlights aim to brighten up locks with their symmetrical, blocked sections of colour. From platinum to caramel, these retro style streaks are back with a vengeance.

If you need more evidence, simply glance at the various examples of chunky highlights, which are quickly surfacing on social media. Chunky coloured strands are illuminating raven tresses and refreshing lighter tones. Whether you’re a brunette, redhead or blonde, this colour trend is certainly an option for you. As with any highlights, try to stick to shades which flatter your natural hair colour and skin tones. Those with dark hair and olive complexions can try caramel highlights, while honey blondes can experiment with golden streaks.
Will you be requesting chunky highlights from your colourist, or is this revisited trend better left in the past?
